The series Niñas de Madera explores identity, time, and place. The figures stained wood are my sister and I, when we are painted in, the figure in stain is my mother. Like many memories and experiences, this moment has become unclear and we are missing from the picture, only the silhouettes can be seen stained into the wood. The paintings in their different layers are a depiction of the in-between spaces and emotions I feel, due to the process of immigration.
