The retablo (moving altar) is used as a tool for reclamation and celebration of identity. The selection of videos in this work are representative of the multiple facets of my Andean identity. The retablo Ayacuchano is traditionally made of wood and potato flour sculptures that depict scenes of Andean traditions or Catholic Religious rituals as they were imposed upon Andean population during colonization. The retablos house small screens and are meant to be interactive and to allow for the viewer to open doors and glimpse at what is happening inside of these spaces. Each retablo becomes a shelter or dwelling for my lived experiences whether it is making tamales with friends, the streets of my home in Peru, walking though Washington DC with Andean mantas, an intimate moment with my mother, etc. The memories I experience as spaces become physical spaces and welcome viewers to share in these moments.
